Why did I join CrossFit? Because I can play like a kid again! Like many of us I used to go to gyms and after a couple of weeks fall into the “not tonight, how about tomorrow?” mantra and realize after a month that I didn’t have interest in going anymore. Also, most of the gyms I went to are impersonal and it normally costs more if you want a circuit, follow classes, etc. In addition, not all gyms have the right personnel to give proper advice to a person with a knee condition.
I didn’t know CrossFit existed until my boyfriend talked to me about it. So at his suggestion we decided to give it a try. At first it seemed strange to do a mix of several movements for time or for max rounds, however, I felt like a kid again, back when the school gym was fun and diversified!! Also the coach is always there and fully qualified to suggest the right movements for my knee, finally a gym that has it all! So after the first phase, we wanted to signup for life! And today we still enjoy our workouts and try hard to not miss one… That is how good CrossFit is, it makes you better and makes you desire to do better and come back for more!

It will not only make you physically look better, but your mental state will drastically improve as well. I am now a better person, mom, wife and business owner, all thanks to Crossfit. It has given me energy I never knew I had, goals to attain I never thought possible and self-confidence that was always a little short. Prior to Crossfit, I would go to my regular gym, workout and leave. It never felt right. I never saw changes and I always felt the same. One month into Crossfit, people at work finally asked me what was going on. My body was changing (the scale was the same) but I started to look different. I was “glowing” like someone said. I lost my 3pm crash time, and had enough energy to last me till bedtime. I knew this was me. I started to change the way I ate in order to improve my performance at the gym. I wanted to get on that whiteboard…badly! My drive to be the best I can be kicked in. I was always a fit person and thought to be “in shape” …well, Crossfit made me realize I was no where near in shape as I thought! Entering into Crossfit Laval is like entering into my second home. You have your personal goals that you want to reach and you have the goals of athletes better than you that you want to be like. This is what will keep you going. You see the results. What you couldn’t do last week, becomes a reality the following week. That feeling keeps you high. Crossfit is the best drug you can take that will not harm you, but it will keep you addicted for a very long time.

What has CrossFit done for me? The brief and honest version is that CrossFit has changed my life for the better. But such a simple description does not do justice to the profound benefits I have experienced in only 5 months of doing CrossFit.
First off, I got results. In fact, as a typical hard-gainer, I have never experienced such physical improvements before. Beyond that, there has been a noticeable and measurable progress in my strength, endurance, flexibility, speed, coordination, to name just a few. Most importantly, my power has greatly developed, that is my ability to apply maximum force in minimum time. At times, I am astounded by what I am capable of doing and how fast.
These kinds of impressive improvements come with a huge boost self-confidence, self-esteem and overall life happiness. It is truly gratifying to feel strong and know that you can handle anything life throws at you. When I think back at only one short year ago, I remember being more than 20 lbs. heavier, less energetic, less mindful of my body and bad eating habits. It was a real shame that I accepted being mediocre and not living to my full potential. Today I am 29 years old, in the best shape of my life by far, and I look forward to getting even fitter, stronger and healthier every year.
Thanks to the excellent coaching, I have learned so much about various exercises, intensity, proper form, and even performance nutrition. I am immensely thankful for all this and I am downright excited to keep learning and bettering myself. The CrossFit approach of constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements has definitely proven to be very effective. I would never go back to wasting my time at a traditional gym. Overall, I must say that my discovery of CrossFit has definitely been the most significant turning point in my life.
